WXW at Sportsfest 2003, Friday, July 11th in Allentown, PA

WXW returned to Cedar Beach Park in Allentown, PA on Friday, July 11th for their annual Sportsfest 2003 show. Since 1998, WXW has put on a free show at Sportsfest, an annual outdoor sports festival in Allentown.

The "Crew" of Frank, Ron and myself arrived early (as to get decent parking) and check out the SportsFest. Met up with photographer extraordinaire, Eric Schaffer who was anxiously awaiting the arrival of "his girls". (That's funny, I thought Tracy was my girl... but that's debatable). Tracy, Sinn, and Angel Williams arrived much to Eric's chagrin. Finally, had the opportunity to meet Tracy after admiring her work for over a year now. AWESOME LADY! Also got to meet Angel Williams. Thanks to both for being so down to Earth. After talking to a few other earlycomers (like Crazy Ivan!) we headed over to say hello to Afa (who for some reason always knows why I'm at his shows, something about seeing my "idol"?)

Grabbed a $9 Root Beer Float and piece of fudge while Ron has the $9 cheeseburger/cheese fry combo. We were soon joined by Paul decked out in his yellow shoes and short and Samoan shirt!.

Prior to going live at 8:00 on Service Electric Cable Channel 2, the crowd in excess of 800 was treated to some "preliminary matches" at 7pm. Unfortunately, no real lumanaries in attendance at this one.

Up first, Tracy Brooks and Angel Williams face Sara Stock and Alere Little Feather. Tracy and Stock started the bout. Alere's interference caused Angel to run in. Huge clotheslines my Angel on Stock followed by Tracy with a clothesline on Alere. The crowd was hot and was popping for every move. After continuous double teaming on Tracy, Angel ran in and attacked Alere. Tracy went to the top rope and hit the Pie In The Sky (off the top rope Thesz Press) on Stock for the win. Great opening match.

Damian Adams defeated Don Crisis in the next match. Crisis immediately left the ring but Damian followed. Crisis slid back into the ring, Adams followed. Crisis dropped an elbow on Adams as he reentered but missed. Adams dominated most of the match and won with a Concrete Slam.

All Money Is Legal then faced Scott Savage and Benny Blanco. All four men started off fighting until Savage and Blanco ran to the outside. AMIL soon attacked with back to back with a flying cross body off the top, followed by a moonsault. AMIL won after a finsher that saw the opponent lifted up by his legs, face down, while the other member of AMIL his an off the top X Factor.

Next up Homicide beat Shorty Smalls with The Entrepreneur. Homicide beat the hell out of Smalls. A running boot on Smalls who was in the corner, followed by a running forearm and a T Bone Tazplex dropping Smalls on his head. Homicide went to the top rope but Entrepreneur. grabbed his foot allowing Smalls to attack and hit a superplex. Smalls missed the frog splash and Homicide applied the STF for the submission. After the match, Homicide beat down The Entrepreneur.

IT was now 7:30 and the crowd was told that in 30 minutes we would go live on Service Electric Cable.

At 8:00 the ring announcer introduced Dylan Dean and Tito Santana to the crowd. Tito talked about how WXW compared with the wrestling he grew up with. He discusses how he was "old school" and WXW was "old school". Tito was soon interrupted by Jamal from Three Minute Warning. Jamal told Tito nobody wants to see old school and Tito has exactly 3 minutes to join the new generation. Mana ran in and attacked Tito but Virgil soon made the save. Pitbull Gary Wolfe ran in to continue to help the new generation only to be confronted by Samu. Samu challenged the "new generation" to a 6 man match against himself, Tito and Virgil later tonight. Great opening angle to set up the match later.

The opening contest saw Damian Adams defeat Rob Eckos in a good match. Damian stomped on Eckos' foot. While Eckos was hopping, holding his injured foot, Damian hit a strong clothesline. Damian whipped Eckos into the turnbuckles and followed with a spear but Eckos moved causing Adams to hit the ringpost. Eckos took control until Damian was able to apply a sleeper. Damian with a missed moonsault. Eckos with a superkick. Eckos went for a second but Adams ducked it and rolled him up for the pinfall.

Moondog Molsonn defeated Nikolai Volkoff. Your usual Volkoff match where Volkoff dominates the match with bearhugs, foreign objects, and headlocks. Volkoff puts Molsonn in a full nelson and brings him to his corner where his manager is waiting with the Moondog's bone. Nikita (the manager) swings, Moondog ducks, Nikolai gets hit and Moondog makes the cover for the three count.

The Perfect Creation was defeated by The Puerto Rican Hurricane Havok. Havok with a series of suplexes and the Tazmission for the win.

Next up, the match everyone (mostly me) was anxiously awaiting, the over the top rope battle royal to crown the new WXW Women's Champion. A great battle royal, done how it should be done, not taking 30 minutes to play out. Sadly, some of the participants were not used to going over the top rope, which made for some interesting eliminations. Order of elimination: Luscious Lily, Frankie B, Alere Little Feather, Stacy Hunter, Psycho, Belladawna, Tara Charisma, Sara Stock, Ariel, Angel Williams, Jessica Dally. The last three women in the ring were Tracy Brooks, April Hunter and Cindy Rogers. Tracy and Cindy teamed up on April. Cindy whipped Tracy into April who ducked, causing Tracy to be eliminated. IS THERE NO JUSTICE!! April the tosses Cindy out but Cindy holds on and gets on the apron. Cindy then snapmared April over the top rope, to the floor to win the match. Cindy Rogers is the new WXW Women's Champion.

The New Generation: Jamal, Pitbull Gary Wolfe, and Mana the Polynesian Warrior then faced the Old School of Tito Santana, Virgil and Samu. Tito worked the majority of the match for his team, first dominating his opponents before numerous double and triple teaming caused him to be beaten down. Samu and Virgil made the save. Tito with the flying forearm for the pin on Tito. Samu then attacks Tito as he is pinning Pitbull. The Old School with Samu continue to beat up Tito and Virgil util Batista enters the ring and clears house. Several other wrestlers from the back ran in, only to be tossed out of the ring by Batista.

The main event saw Slyk Wagner Brown, with April Hunter attempt to capture the WXW Heavyweight Title from The Samoan Storm, Afa Jr. April held open the ropes for Afa. As he got into the ring, Slyk kicked the ropes, crotching Afa on them. April immediately set up a table at ringside. April got onto the ring apron as Slyk went for a suplex. Afa blocked the suplex and pushed Slyk into the ropes, into April, who it the ground. Afa with a rollup for 2. Afa Jr took control with an armdrag and a dropkick. Afa whipped Slyk into the ropes. Slyk reversed it and April pulled down the top rope, causing Afa to fall out of the ring. Slyk picks up Afa as if he was going for a Samoan Drop. He walks toward the corner, where April is now on the top rope. April comes off the top with a Blockbuster like move on Afa. The table is the set up in the ring. Slyk sets Afa on the top rope and follows him up. Afa reverses and pushes Slyk off the ropes BUT April was able to move the table out of the way in time. Afa then sets up the table and goes for a sit out powerbomb on April but this time Slyk moves the table in time. Back to the turnbuckles. Slyk attempts a superplex through the table. Afa blocks and Rock Bottom's Slyk off the ropes, through the table for the pinfall. Afa Jr retains his WXW Heavyweight Title. After the match, Afa gets on the mic and says he is going to make his father proud and go to college. Now it's his turn to give the belt back to WXW where it belongs so he can go get his education. Most of the locker room empties. Slyk and Afa hug. The WXW heavyweight championship will be on the line, later tonight, in a battle royal.

Intermission

The WXW Cruiserweight Championship was on the line as Don Crisis attempted to take the belt from Supreme Lee Great. The crowd didn't get into the match as much as all the previous ones. Supreme Lee Great hit a Springboard Asai Moonsault onto Crisis on the floor. He then hit a standing moonsault for 2. A moonsault of the 1st rope was next, for a 2 count. Then the 2nd rope moonsault, then a top rope moonsault. Both only got Lee 2 counts (remember when moonsaults were a finisher?) After hitting more moonsaults than anyone should be allowed to hit in one match, Supreme Lee Great won... WITH A CLOTHESLINE!?

For the Hardcore Championship, Boogaloo faced Jason and the champion, Crazy Ivan. Garbage cans, chairs, cookie sheets, ladders and everything else were used. A table was set up at ringside and Ivan covered it with tacks. The ladder was set up in the ring. Jason climbed the ladder but Ivan ran into it. Jason (who was supposed to fall out through the table) ended up falling back down in the ring, on the ladder. Ivan set Jason up on the ring apron and rammed him with the ladder, knocking him through the table. Ivan took control beating both opponents down with cookie sheets. Jason is busted open. Jason attempted a sunset flip over the top rope, onto Ivan, through a table at ringside. However, the table was too close to the ring and Jason broke it with his legs on the flip. Jason handcuffed Boogaloo to the turnbuckles. Jason with a reverse Razor's Edge on Ivan, through a table for the pinfall.

Chucky Manson lost to John Rambo with an off the top single leg drop kick in a short match. Rambo got a nice pop out of the crowd (of course, the Rocky Theme as his entrance didn't hurt).

The Double Threat of Jake Bishop and Cliff Compton defeated Los Lunatics (Guapo and Low Ryda) to become the WXW Tag Team Champions. Double Threat attacked from behind to take the early advantage but Los Lunatics soon hit a series of high flying moves to gain control. The advantage didn't last for long though as Bishop, seated on the top rope, press slammed Low Ryda into Guapo, who was on Compton's shoulders.

Homicide defeated Azrael in the next match. Homicide with a nice suicide dive. Back in the ring, Azrael with a Nothern Lights Suplex throwing Homicide into the turnbuckles. Frog spash by Azrael for two. Homicide with the Cop Killer for the win.

The Main Event of the second half was a battle royal for the WXW Heavyweight Championship. The participantes were: Mana, Extreme Billy Dream, Virgil, Don Crisis, Moondog Molsonn, Supreme Lee Great, Featherstone, Havok, Boogaloo, Homicide, Crazy Ivan, Cliff Compton, Jake Bishop, The Perfect Creation, Pitbull Gary Wolfe, Flash Wheeler, and Tito Santana. As the ring began to empty, Jamal entered the battle royal and eliminated Virgil. Tito then eliminated Jamal. Samu then ran in and eliminated Tito. The last three in the ring were Mana, Samu and Extreme Billy Dream. Samu runs off the ropes to attack but Tito, from the outside, pulled the top rope down, eliminating Samu. Extreme Billy Dream then eliminated Mana to win the WXW Heavyweight Championship.

Another great showing by the WXW. For the price you couldn't beat it. The weather held up and cooled down a bit making for a beautiful evening for an outdoor show. The crowd was huge and seemed to be into nearly every match.
